Privacy policy

Last updated: 3 October 2026. This is a translation of the French version, which prevails in case of discrepancy.

This policy explains what personal data is used by the mymemoriesmap.com website and by the Memories Map software, in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the French Data Protection Act (loi Informatique et Libertés).

The Memories Map software

The software collects no data. It reads the files of your Snapchat export and creates your memories on your computer. Your photos, videos, dates, positions, conversations and other export data are never sent, neither to us nor to anyone. In the export, the software only reads the memories and the file that gives their dates and places; it does not open your conversations or your other data.

Two optional features, which you can untick, download public data:

• Precise place names: download, from the public GeoNames service (download.geonames.org), of the list of places in the countries where you took memories. Only the country code (for example "FR") is requested.
• Detailed street map: download of OpenStreetMap data from Protomaps (build.protomaps.com). The whole world is downloaded at the level of motorways and major cities; roads are requested for areas of about 75 km, and street detail for squares of about 8 km, that contain your memories. The server can therefore infer approximate areas, but never your photos, videos or dates.

As with any Internet connection, these services see your computer's IP address. We receive none of this information.

Be careful when sharing: the files created contain the date and GPS position of each memory, and the map contains all the positions. If you share a file or the folder, this information goes with it.

The website

Host logs

Like any website, the host (Cloudflare, Inc. — 101 Townsend Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, United States — +1 (650) 319-8930) keeps technical logs (IP address, date, page requested, browser) to ensure the security and proper functioning of the site. Legal basis: legitimate interest. Retention: according to the host's policy, generally less than a year.

Cookies and trackers

No advertising or audience measurement cookie is set without your consent. On your first visit, a consent message lets you accept, refuse or choose. For advertising, this message is provided by Google, with its certified consent management platform (IAB "Transparency and Consent Framework"). You can change your mind at any time with the "Manage cookies" link at the bottom of each page.

• Advertising (with your consent): Google AdSense and its partners set cookies to display ads, limit their repetition, measure their effectiveness and fight fraud; with your consent, ads may be personalized. This data may be transferred to the United States (Data Privacy Framework). More information: policies.google.com/technologies/ads.
• Audience measurement (with your consent): visit statistics without profiling, to know which pages are useful.
• Remembering your choices: your consent choice is stored in your browser (cookies of Google's consent message, the site's local storage); this is necessary to respect your choice and does not require consent.

Contact form

The form opens your email app with a pre-filled message; it is not stored by the site. The messages you send us (name, email address, content) are used only to reply to you and are deleted at the latest one year after the last exchange. Legal basis: your consent.

Your rights

You have the right to access, rectify and erase your data, to object to and restrict its processing, to data portability, and to withdraw your consent at any time. To exercise these rights, use the contact page (subject "Personal data") or write to memoriesmap [at] proton.me. You can also lodge a complaint with the CNIL, the French data protection authority (www.cnil.fr).

Security

The site is served only over HTTPS, with no database or user account. It runs no program on the server and stores no data entered by visitors.
